We report with great sadness in our hearts that Randy Watkins, Orlando
Assistant City Manager, passed away in the early morning hours of
December 9th.
Immediately following his diagnosis of cancer, Randy was
hospitalized. After only one week, Randy succumbed to the disease. He
was only 50.
Randy is survived by his wife Stephanie, daughters Lea, Rachel,
and Sara, and sons Ryan and Travis.
Randy was a dedicated husband and father with nothing more
important than his family. Instilling those values to his children and
everyone around him is what made Randy one of the special people known
to everyone in Orlando and the tradeshow industry in general.
Gene Winther, Expon Exhibits, gives a touching memorial: “I only
knew Randy for 10 years, but I will miss him forever. His welcome
smile, his ever-present enthusiasm and the strong presence on any show
floor was always comforting, and you knew everything was going to be
handled.
My last dinner with Randy was at the Red Lobster with Stephanie
and my son Chris. It was a super evening – good company, good food and
great conversation. Oddly one of the conversations was about the EDPA
Foundation and the good work the foundation did to give back to the
industry, by taking care of families after a spousal loss and in need.
Randy was wanting to help, which is just like Randy. Now we all need
to think of Randy and his family. I hope we will all keep Randy’s
family in our prayers and our thoughts, especially during the Holiday
season.
I, for one, will never forget Randy, and I know that as I
continue living my life I will remember that I am a better person for
having known Randy as a friend and co-worker. He truly was a man
amongst men.”
A fund has been set up for Randy’s family. For further
information regarding this, please contact Rob West, Orlando City
Manager.
